Only use the following water pumps on Hansen Water Heaters :

Technical bulletin no 1
Hansen Water heaters would like to provide insight into technical information regarding pressure water pumps and use of them with our water heaters.
Two types of water pump scenarios
1. Pumps connected to mixer taps with built in micro switches (Normally heaper type pumps sometimes submerged)
2. Pumps with pressure intervention pressure switches (More expensive Shurflo, Flojet, Fiamma etc)
The 1st type is quite commonly used with installation where budget is of concern. We endorse this type of installation for the simple reason that the entire system is of no pressure or very low pressure. The pumps is activated when a facet is opened and the micro switch engages the pump. When the facet is closed the pumps is deactivated thus all pressure is lost. The only pressure that is acquired is from the water heater heating up the water, the expansion of the water during the heating cycle creates a build-up of pressure. This amounts of pressure is very low and the water heater is designed for this. This system reduces pressure on the entire system pipes/hoses, fittings clamps etc.
The 2nd Type of pump we also endorse but has to be of certain specification. We endorse the use of only two types of pumps or and equivalent, reason being some of these pumps can produce pressure of up to 55 PSI ( 3,8 Bar). Hansen water heaters are simply not designed for this type of pressure for long periods and will cause damage to the tank. Many of these types of pumps are not designed for RV applications. For this reason we ONLY recommend 2 types of pumps which are specifically designed for RV water heaters namely the “Shurflo Trail king” and “Fiamma Aqua 8” for the simple reason that they have high flow rates with low pressure intervention switches.
Another additional product available from Shurflo and Fiamma are “Expansion tanks”. They eliminate the pulsating operation of pressure switch pumps and supply a constant flow of water in the required quantity. They extend the life of the pump and water heater and cut water consumption. They absorb the pressure build up of water when the heating cycle occurs. We recommend an a expansion tank when using type 2 pumps with type 1 pumps it’s not necessary.
For those customers who do not have access to another pumps other than high pressure ie 2,5 bar + we can provide a pressure reducing valve (see attached JYF). The only draw back is this valve will reduce the flow rate to around 4-5L/min.
